Contributors to this volume incorporate approaches from multiple disciplines, including sociology, economics, demography, race and gender studies, public health, education, criminal justice, social welfare, and other social science fields. Considering gender, race, and immigration, the book appreciates the overlooked structural and institutional dimensions of ongoing rural poverty and its larger social consequences.
Author Bio
I'm the Professor Emerita of Rural Sociology and Demography at the College of Agriculture Sciences, The Pennsylvania State University.
My research interests focus on gender and development, spatial inequalities, and rural poverty, livelihood practices, and welfare provision in the U.S. and the global South. I have published numerous articles and five books on these topics, including:
