Admired by textile artists and embroiderers alike across the globe for her beautiful combination of classical embroidery materials, fabrics and natural objects, Jane is recognized as a gifted needle painter who can create exquisite, life-like, embroidered machinations of the plants and insects our planet has to offer. In her highly anticipated third book, this time gently journey with Jane through the natural landscape to unlock your own artistic potential, and breathe creativity back into your life.
Beginning with a small introduction on how to engage the senses, rediscover lost playfulness and embrace the process of making art rather than achieving its final form, Jane then takes you through 10 different creative ideas inspired by nature. These 'Creative Contemplations' explore building and sourcing your treasure chest of both natural and man-made materials, and forming a whole host of beautiful designs: quietly stunning mandalas, exquisite trinket boxes, handmade birds' nests, embroidered flowers, awe-inspiring dreamcatchers and much more - there for you to recreate yourself, or simply to inspire you to push beyond your perceived creative limits.
No matter how skilled or unskilled you may believe yourself to be, The Nature of Creativity seeks to nurture your artistic thoughts, fantasies and wonder - and with it, help you find your inner happiness.
As an artist I have always drawn my inspiration form the natural world. Observing its detail and drama with a sense of wonder, I have sought to evolve and hone my artistic approach and technique to render the exquisite qualities that I perceive. Moreover, I continually aspire to share that ‘sense of wonder’, so pertinent to my creativity.
Having shared this love of nature and creativity through my first book ‘Reflections of Nature’, I am delighted to have subsequently found myself evolving a body of work dedicated to my muse, the butterfly, the fruition of which completes my latest book; ‘The Art of Embroidered Butterflies’ published by Search Press
The miraculous beauty of my subject has commanded great concentration artistically. Working entirely by hand I have employed painting, modeling and embroidery techniques to consider their closest detail. Working with the aid of magnification I have represented the minute scales, which adorn their wings, employing the finest of silk threads and delicate hand made embroidery needles. I have also carefully considered their beautiful and varied habitats; bluebell woods, summer meadows… even the secret corners of my garden shed. So too have I delighted in observing their miraculous life cycle; from egg to pupae to butterfly on the wing’, gathering in and nurturing countless hungry caterpillars from the field and watching their metamorphosis in awe.
